Wild Toro Slot

A bull lands on reel 5, knocks every Matador off the grid and leaves Wilds along his path. That one idea, on 5 reels with 178 ways, carries the whole game, and it took Game of the Year at the 2017 EGR Operators Awards.

Why everything revolves around one bull and his targets

Toro only lands on reel 5 and Matadors only on reels 2, 3 and 4, so the bull always has ground to cover. With no Toro on the reels a Matador is a blocker, but once he appears it becomes a target.

The setting is an old Spanish town, where El Toro feuds with Diaz Jr, son of the Captain Diaz who robbed Santa Maria in Taco Brothers. ELK says it backs the bull 100%, and the rules agree: he keeps attacking until no Matador is left.

A 24.9% hit frequency means about one spin in four pays something, and 6 of 10 volatility is gentler than any later ELK game in this guide. Treat the 96.4% RTP as a long-run theoretical figure, since it says little about one session.

How a Wild Toro spin plays out

Wins start on the leftmost reel and pay left to right on consecutive reels, with only the highest win per active payline counted. Stakes run from €0.20 to €100.

In Normal mode Toro moves left one reel at a time and earns one respin per step. Bonus mode takes over when he has Matadors to attack, and the game holds its payout until the last one has gone.

What each feature does, according to the rules

Almost every line of the short rules file changes how a spin resolves.

Toro the Walking Wild

Toro lands only on reel 5 and walks left, generating one respin for each step, so a walk passes across the grid instead of touching a single column. The ordinary Wild cannot stand in for him, which makes his arrival entirely a reel 5 matter. Only one Toro attacks at a time, and he stays active until he leaves the screen.

Toro Goes Wild bonus

Once Matadors are in sight, Toro charges vertically and then horizontally, leaving Wilds behind him. The order is fixed: Matadors on his own reel first, then everything to his right as far as reel 5, then everything on his left. The bonus ends when he reaches reel 1 with no Matadors remaining. Scattered Matadors therefore make for a longer route, and a longer route leaves more Wilds.

Matador Respin Challenge

Three Matadors trigger this with 3 respins. Matadors stick in place and each new one adds 1 respin, so the count can climb as well as fall. It stops when a Toro appears or the count reaches zero. With Toro, every stuck Matador becomes a target for his charge. Without him, the respins simply run out and the Matadors are never knocked off.

Wilds and Matador blockers

The Wild substitutes for everything except Toro and Matador, and an all-Wild line pays as the highest value symbol. With no Toro on the reels, the rules call a Matador a blocker. Sitting on reels 2, 3 and 4, it takes up the middle of any left-to-right line, so the symbol that feeds the bonus also costs you positions on ordinary spins.

What Wild Toro's 96.4% RTP and 2,250x cap imply

Wild Toro trades reach for return. Its 96.4% RTP is the joint highest in this guide, level with Taco Brothers Saving Christmas, while wins are capped at 2,250x, which ELK's data sheet puts at €225,000 on the €100 top bet. Larger results need Toro to meet plenty of Matadors, and he depends on a single reel.

How the sequels changed the formula

ELK launched Wild Toro in November 2016. Wild Toro II followed in October 2021 and rewrote most of the rules: a single Matador starts respins and walks as a wild, rows grow up to 8, and X-iter arrives. Its cap rises to 10,000x while RTP drops to 95.0%. Wild Toro 3 followed in May 2026 and has no page here yet.

Wild Toro pros and cons

What works

  • 96.4% RTP, the joint highest in this guide
  • One mechanic to learn: Toro attacks, Matadors fall and Wilds stay behind
  • Respin counts can grow in the Matador Respin Challenge
  • Game of the Year at the 2017 EGR Operators Awards, from 13 nominated slots

What to watch

  • Matadors block positions on reels 2, 3 and 4 whenever Toro is absent
  • Toro only lands on reel 5, so a Matador Respin Challenge can run out without him
  • The 2,250x cap is less than a quarter of Wild Toro II's 10,000x

Who should play Wild Toro, and who should skip it

Wild Toro suits players who like one readable mechanic and a higher theoretical return, and who can accept a modest ceiling in exchange. Skip it if you want multipliers, feature buys or a 10,000x cap, because those live in the sequel.

Wild Toro questions answered

What RTP does Wild Toro have?

ELK's data sheet lists a theoretical 96.4%. That is a long-run average, so one session can land far above or below it.

What is the maximum win in Wild Toro?

Wins are capped at 2,250x the bet, or €225,000 on the €100 top bet. Treat it as a limit, not an expected result.

Can I play Wild Toro for free?

Yes. The demo here costs nothing, because play credits take the place of money.

How do the Wild Toro bonus features trigger?

Toro attacks when he lands on reel 5 with Matadors in sight. Three Matadors start the Matador Respin Challenge with 3 respins.

Does Wild Toro have free spins?

The in-game rules describe respins and no separate free spins round, although ELK's web page mentions free spins in passing.
